Seismic logs show “zero displacement” despite colony-wide tremor.
Residents woke just before dawn to a brief, sharp tremor that shook the entire Outer Colony — enough to rattle windows and disrupt surface drones mid-flight. Seismic monitors reacted immediately… then reported something impossible:
no movement in the planet’s crust.
The tremor didn’t come from below.
It originated inside the colony, as if the ground responded to something unseen.
Moments later, the cyan perimeter lights dimmed, flickering in quiet waves that traveled outward toward the plains. Officers stationed along the gate lines reported hearing a low hum rising from the soil itself — a tone that vibrated through boots, armor, and bone.
When technicians reviewed the audio, the hum wasn’t random. It formed a pattern resembling a pulse, repeated exactly seven times. The last surge caused the entire colony grid to momentarily drop by 2%.
Then everything stopped. No quake. No malfunction. No residual anomalies.
But every resident who felt the tremor described the same sensation afterward:
“Like the ground was checking to see if we were awake.”
