At dawn, a strange phenomenon drifted across the Outer Colony’s eastern ridge—what officers are calling a Static Bloom. It looked like fog at first, a low blue haze rolling in from the marshlands. But as it crossed the perimeter grid, the air crackled with faint electrical distortion, and every comm channel filled with soft static… whispering.
The Bloom never made physical contact with the colony walls. Instead, it hovered just beyond the barrier, expanding and contracting like something breathing. Technicians triggered full-spectrum scans, but sensors returned scrambled data—brief spikes forming perfect geometric shapes before dissolving.
Just before the Bloom dissipated, the green perimeter lights flickered into a pale cyan. That shouldn’t be possible; the lights only operate on one color frequency.
Now they won’t turn green again.
Whatever passed by the colony didn’t try to enter.
It only wanted to announce itself.
